William Le Sage is a multifaceted musician. Conductor, composer, orchestrator, he works with orchestras, early music ensembles, new music ensembles, opera houses. He is the assistant conductor at the Opéra National de Lorraine for the 2022-23 and 23-24 seasons.

This season's engagements include returning to the Opéra Orchestre National de Montpellier to conduct Poulenc’s L’Histoire de Babar, and conducting numerous concerts at the Opéra National de Lorraine, including a Beethoven/Mendelssohn program with the violonist Kerson Leong, the Halloween concert with choir and orchestra, the final round of the Mirecourt International Violin Competition, Chaplin’s The Circus in film concert, and the shows Nous n’irons pas à l’opéra and Où allez-vous comme ça ? During the same season, he is assistant conductor to Jakob Lehmann in Idomeneo, Giulio Cilona in Don Pasquale, Gaetano Lo Coco in Kurt Weill’s Der Silbersee, and Ramón Tebar in I Capuleti e i Montecchi.

In the previous seasons, he made his debuts with the Orchestre National de Cannes, Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, and Ensemble Court-circuit. At the Opéra National de Lorraine, he conducted a classical program (Mozart, Bologne) with the two violinists Julien Chauvin and Chouchane Siranossian, and Albert Roussel’s Le Festin de l’Araignée to accompany live illustrations by Amandine Meyer. He was also assistant to Marie Jacquot in The Love for Three Oranges, Sebastiano Rolli in The Barber of Seville, Leo Hussain in Tristan und Isolde, Alphonse Cemin in Iphigénie en Tauride, Marta Gardolinska in La Traviata and Manru by Paderewski, Alexandre Bloch and the Orchestre National de France for Radio France’s Présences festival, Nicolas Krüger in Angers-Nantes Opéra for La Clemenza di Tito, Franck-Emmanuel Comte for the French premiere of the baroque opera Talestri, Regina della Amazoni by Maria-Antonia Walpurgis, and Tito Ceccherini at the Paris Conservatoire for a production of Haydn’s Il Mondo della Luna, of which he conducted a performance.
William Le Sage graduated from Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with Master degrees in orchestra conducting (prof. Alain Altinoglu and Alexandre Piquion) and « écriture » (style composition), as well as certificates in music analysis and orchestration. He participated in several international exchanges. In 2018, he was selected for the Donatella Flick-London Symphony Orchestra conducting competition. In 2017-18, he studied at Eastman School of Music in Rochester (NY, USA). In 2016, he had the opportunity to teach young musicians from the Simon Bolivar foundation in Caracas (Venezuela). Furthermore, he has benefited from the guidance of renowned conductors such as Jorma Panula, Susanna Mälkki, Paavo Järvi, David Zinman, Peter Eötvös, Enrique Mazzola, Mikko Franck, Leonard Slatkin, George Pehlivanian, Jonathan Darlington, and he worked with prestigious orchestras and ensembles including Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Ensemble intercontemporain, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, and MÀV Symphony Orchestra of Budapest. He was awarded scholarships from the Tokyo Foundation (SYLFF) and Adami.

Passionate about new music, William Le Sage has worked closely with many composers, including the Argentinean composer Francisco Uberto from whom he commissioned a concerto for tenor saxophone and wind band, Aria Aerodinamica, which he premiered with Camille Maussion and the Orchestre d’Harmonie de Nanterre. He himself composed several works, including the Variations for orchestra op.1, premiered by Ut cinquième orchestra in November 2019, and edited by Tamino Productions.
